About
Our Lady of Peace School
Our
Lady of Peace School is located in Darien, Illinois,
a southwestern suburb of Chicago, situated within
DuPage County. The school is part of a parish complex
which includes the parish church and rectory.
Established
in 1963, Our Lady of Peace School currently serves
455 students (285 families) in grades K-8 who reside
within Darien and surrounding communities. We offer
both a full day and half day (am and pm) Kindergarten
program. First through eighth grade students are divided
equally between two classrooms.
The staff is comprised of one administrator, twenty-nine
full time teachers, three part time teachers, and
five educational support personnel (athletic director,
secretaries, custodians). The services of a speech
therapist are provided through School District #61.
The school is under the direct auspices of the Diocese
of Joliet and the direct guidance of the pastor and
the principal. A voluntary school board, composed
of parents, serves as a consultative body to the pastor.
Another
strength of the school lies within our dedicated volunteer
program. Parents generously donate their time and
energy to the essential tasks of our daily operation.
In addition to patrolling our parking lot before school
to ensure the safety of the students, they help to
prepare a hot lunch program, serve as room mothers,
and facilitate the emergency notification process
for school closings and disasters. Parents also work
as aides in the learning center and serve as coaches
in the extensive athletic program.
Our
Lady of Peace School has an excellent reputation within
the Joliet Diocese, as well as within Darien and surrounding
communities. Our Lady of Peace students score high
on diocesan assessment tests. Graduates readily assimilate
into the surrounding high school student bodies, both
public and private. They are well prepared to meet
the challenges of high school and beyond. Lifelong
learning is the goal of our entire educational program.
