Athletics
Our
Lady of Peace School has thriving sports programs
due to the dedication of staff and parent-coaches
who generously spend their time to enhance our children's
education through team sports. Our teams include:
Football
| Volleyball | Cross Country Basketball | Track and Field
Our
Athletics Program is
designed to develop each child's physical and emotional
well being through positive reinforcement, sportsmanship,
discipline and basic Christian values. Participation
and enjoyment are the foremost goals. It should be
remembered that athletics shall always remain secondary
to academics.

Football:
(JV & Varsity)
Our
Lady of Peace started its football Program in 2001.
After 6 short years, it has become one of the Powerhouses
of the Silver Conference winning the conference title
at the varsity level in 2004 and in 2005 and tying
for the conference title at the JV level in 2006.
OLP has had a playoff team (1st or 2nd in conference)
at one level for the last 4 years.
However
the program was started really to prepare athletes
for High School football while teaching discipline,
sacrifice, work ethic, courage and teamwork; qualities
that will serve our students for life. Our motto is
PRIDE, HUSTLE, and DESIRE and the program is very
proud of its players and alumni. Since our inception,
OLP has sent dozens of players to play at 6 area high
schools: Downers Grove South, Hinsdale South, Montini
Academy, Joliet Catholic Academy, Benet Academy and
Nazareth Academy. Our players are extremely well received
by the high schools. They are considered amongst the
best trained and easiest coached players not to mention
some exceptional athletes. In 2006, OLP four alumni
were captains on their varsity football teams. In
2007, we expect to at least 2 alumni playing collegiate
football. Come
be part of a growing tradition and the family of OLP
football. Our Lady of Peace has a staff of dedicated
coaches who will teach the fundamentals of sound football
and create a fun — winning atmosphere.

Cross
Country:
The
Our Lady of Peace Cross Country Team participates
in the Suburban Parochial League along with twenty-two
other area schools. Cross Country is open to all
boys and girls in 5th through 8th grade and no running
experience is necessary. There are five meets in
a season and being a “No Cut” sport,
every runner who practices will participate in every
meet.
Cross
Country provides an excellent opportunity for health,
physical fitness and conditioning for other sports.
An emphasis is placed on proper form and running
technique while slowly building up endurance and
stamina. Cross Country also develops personal qualities
such as self-confidence, sportsmanship, teamwork,
discipline and goal setting that compliment what
is taught in the classroom. After school practices
and Saturday morning meets allow for other fall
sport participation as well as homework and family
time.

Basketball:
The
Our Lady of Peace Basketball Program participates
in the Dupage Parochial Basketball Association (DPBA).
The DPBA has 16 leagues that Our Lady of Peace participates
in. The DuPage Parochial League (DPL) has
four leagues, the 7th and 8th grade levels, both
boys and girls. The Saint Mary’s League has
four leagues, the 5th and 6th grade levels, both
boys and girls. Each of the above eight leagues
are considered “A” leagues. The remaining
eight leagues form what is known as the DPL West,
5th through 8th grades, both boys and girls. The
DPL West leagues are designed for “B”
level players.
The basketball season begins in late October and
runs until March. This season, the schedule has
both boys’ and girls’ seasons running
concurrently. The 7th and 8th graders start sooner
than the 5th and 6th graders. Teams at the 6th,
7th, & 8th Grade levels play 12 regular season
games; 5th grade teams play 10 regular season games.
All teams participate in a post season championship
tournament.
The basketball program is open to all eligible students
in grades 5-8. The number of players per team is
determined on a per grade basis depending on the
number of available students. A "no cut
policy" means that every child who wants to
participate is placed on a team regardless of skill
or experience. The students are then placed
on a team that is commensurate with the student’s
developmental level. Volunteer coaches who demonstrate
qualified athletic leadership are selected by the
athletic director.
