Holy
Name Society
The
formal beginning of the Holy Name Society is credited
to Pope Gregory X, who in 1274 commissioned the newly
founded Dominican Order to concentrate its efforts
on preaching the greater devotion to the Holy Name.
On April 13, 1564 Pope Pius IV, instituted the Confraternity
of the Most Holy Name, and thus provided Papal recognition
and approval for this devotion to the name of God
and of Christ.
The
Holy Name Society as it is popularly known in North
America, has done good and has taught men to love
and respect the Holy Name. The Holy Name Society members
of Our Lady of Peace Parish, Darien Illinois, meet
monthly September through June. All men of the parish
21 years of age and older whose membership is approved
by the Reverend Pastor, who have formally received
and whose names have been inscribed in the official
register, shall be members of the society.
The
Holy Name Society holds an Annual Fund Raising Raffle
for the purpose of making a parish contribution and
sponsoring of the Boy and Cub Scouts Pak 101.
The
Purpose of the Holy Name Society:
•
Promoting the spiritual welfare of the men of the
parish by encouraging and assisting them to observe
the practice of the Confraternity of the Most Holy

•
Assisting the members to participate more intimately
in the life of the Church.

Name Societies of the Diocese.
